This doctoral research is a history and an analysis of narration and moving image in contemporary art.
The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first, Narration and Medium, is an analysis and a history of video art from the 1960s to the 1980s, while looking into artworks that questioned the specificity of a medium, video, and a media, television. The second, Narration and Exhibited Cinema, concerns the analysis and the history of video and filmic practices in contemporary art since the conversion of cinematographic patrimony to VHS for mass consumption and the progressive globalization of digital technology at the end of the 1980s, while looking into artworks that question the modalities of cinema exhibition. The third, Narration and Interactivity, focuses on digital artworks on the web (the Internet) or installed (interactive environments) since the 1990s, parallel to the democratization of the use of the computer and the Internet.
